There are many nutritional supplements and vitamins available for exotic pets.  On paper, many of these supplements appear to be similar in content, but they are not similar in quality.  Nekton Products are high-quality and extremely bio-available-- ie. they are easily absorbed and utilized by the organism that consumes the supplement.  Many other supplements are not very bio-available and merely pass through the animal's digestive tract.  Nekton is imported from Germany.

Birds

Many illnesses in birds result from a lack of proper nutrition.  Seed-only diets are deficient in many vitamins and minerals.  As a general rule, we recommend vitamin supplementation for all birds.  Birds that consume a diet of greater than 50% pellets probably do not need supplementation.

Nekton-S is a general purpose multivitamin supplement with minerals, trace elements and amino acids for caged birds.     Nekton-S is available in a powdered formulation which allows for its administration in the drinking water or, preferably, sprinkled on a favorite food to which it would adhere (not on seeds).

Nekton-BIO is a special supplement designed to improve feather health, quality and appearance.  Nekton-BIO has ingredients similar to Nekton-S with the addition of amino acids helpful in the production of feathers.  Nekton-BIO gives a bird a smooth shiny plumage.  It strengthens and supports a bird during the extreme physiological stress of molting.  Nekton-BIO helps to prevent and correct feather picking and chewing due to nutritional deficiencies.  We will frequently prescribe Nekton-BIO to birds that present with feather picking and/or chewing problems, or to birds that are predisposed to these problems.

Nekton-GELB ("gelb" is the German word for "yellow") is a general purpose supplement designed specifically to enhance the coloration of Yellow Canaries and other birds with yellow plumage via the use of beta-carotene and other pigment precursors.  Birds are unable to produce their own pigmentation, so they must obtain these pigments from their diet.  The pigment precursors are metabolized and incorporated into the feather during its development.  Without this supplementation, a bird's feathers will degenerate to a dull color.  Nekton-GELB provides an optimal benefit during the molt and growth of new feathers.  When not in molt, it is recommended to use Nekton-S or Nekton-BIO.

Nekton-LORI is a nectar diet designed specifically for Lories-- "the Brush-tongued Parrots".  Nekton-LORI is a diet that is easy to prepare and feed.  It provides nutrition that is very similar to the natural Lory diet.  This is a high-quality diet that is highly bio-available.  As a result, the diet metabolizes to a small amount of water and fecal matter, which is cleaner and more pleasant smelling than that produced by most Lory diets.  Lories are difficult to feed, and this product goes a long way to improving Lory nutritional health.

Nekton-E

Nekton-E is a potent Vitamin E supplement designed to increase fertility in birds.  We are now stocking this product due to the requests of MANY breeders.  Vitamin E deficiency has been shown to lead to such problems as decreased fertility in hens and sterility in males.  In addition, a lack of Vitamin E in the hen can lead to early embryonic death in her eggs.  As with any other dietary supplement, use this product as directed.  Excessive use of such a potent product may be unhealthful.

Reptiles

Nekton-REP

Nekton-REP is a general purpose dietary supplement providing vitamins, minerals and free amino acids for reptiles and amphibians.  Typically, Nekton-REP is administered on food items.  It may be sprinkled on fruits and vegetables or, for carnivorous or omnivorous reptiles, it may be applied to prey items by the "shake and bake" method (put the vitamin powder in a bag with the prey item and shake).  In some circumstances, it is beneficial to mix Nekton-REP with water and soak the animal (this works well with sick tortoises).

Nekton-REP-Color 

Nekton-REP-Color is similar to Nekton-REP with the addition of carotenoids --canthxanthines and apocarotinal-- which are an important group of natural reddish and yellow pigments.  These carotenoids serve to revive and enhance skin coloration.  Nekton-REP-Color allows colored reptiles and amphibians to obtain optimal striking colors.

It is important to not overuse the Nekton-REP and Nekton-REP-Color Products.  These are extremely potent vitamins.

Nekton-Iguana

Nekton-Iguana is formulated with the important B group vitamins and 18 indispensable amino 1acids specifically for Iguana health.  In addition, Nekton-Iguana provides a multivitamin and the high levels of calcium and phosphorus, in the proper proportions, needed by Iguanas.  When using this product it is not necessary or recommended to use any other mineral supplementation.

Sugar Gliders

Nekton for Sugar Gliders (Petaurus breviceps) is a complete nectar-based diet supplemented with vitamins and minerals (macro and trace).  Poor diet and the lack of the proper vitamins and minerals are the number one reason that Sugar Gliders become ill and potentially die.  Unfortunately, there is a lot of misinformation on the proper feeding of Sugar Gliders.  The Nekton Sugar Glider Diet should be fed two to three times weekly instead of the regular diet of insects, larvae, fruits, vegetables, blossoms, and nectar.

This product is highly recommended for the health of your pet Sugar Gliders.
